The people of Shimla, also known as Shimlaites, are simple and friendly in nature. Both modern and traditional lifestyles can be seen here. The population of Shimla is very diverse and the residents belong to various religions, regions and ethnicities. The city has a population of 1,042,161 people, out of which 93.50% are Hindus, 2.29% are Muslims, 1.95% are Sikhs, 1.95% are Buddhists and 0.62% are Christians. Though the young people can be seen wearing western dresses, many people wear traditional Indian outfits such as ‘salwar’, ‘kurta’, ‘kameez’, etc. However, most of the men wear shirts, trousers and jackets.
