Tezpur is located 175 km northeast of Guwahati. The city is placed quite conveniently on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River thus making it the perfect blend of utility and beauty. The rivers in and around Tezpur are fast flowing, especially those originating from the Himalayas foothills. Tezpur has a number of small hillocks, ensuring that it does not get flooded even after a heavy downpour during monsoon. The region is famous for its multiple, picturesque tea gardens and is the headquarters of the Sonitpur district, famous for being home to as many as 73 tea gardens.
