The local bus service within Thiruvananthapuram is excellent, and the network is dominated mostly by KSRTC although private buses also ply on many routes. The KSRTC runs the JnNURM bus Transport services with AC bus services throughout the city. There are six depots within the city with buses running in all directions.
Trivandrum is a major hub in Southern India and thus has all the various cab services. App-based services such as Ola and Uber operate in this city. Radio taxis such as Mango Cabs, Hindustan cabs are also available as are normal taxis for on-spot hire. Auto rickshaws are another option for point to point travel.
Car rentals are easily available in Thiruvananthapuram as it is an important hub in Southern India and the state capital of Kerala. There are many providers spread across the city for car rentals. Motorbike and bicycle rentals are also available, although they may be less in number than car rental companies and may be available only in certain areas.
Metro services within Thiruvananthapuram have been in planning and proposal stages for quite some time. The plans for a light metro system was given the go ahead, and construction will start in 2016, although starting operation will take some time. As of now, there are no existing metro rail or systems within the city.
Thiruvananthapuram has an extended railway network connecting nearby towns and districts to the city through commuter trains. However, the city itself is not big enough to have a major local train network. There are six local stations within the city limits which work as boarding and deboarding points for commutes but can also be used for intracity travelling.
Thiruvananthapuram has many trekking areas close by. One of the most popular treks is through Ponmudi, which is marked by many beautiful tea gardens. There are other trekking options just outside this city too as it is nestled within the Western Ghats which promise beautiful views.
