Tirunelveli has an excellent bus network, primarily to connect to smaller towns and districts within this city but is also used for intracity transport. Apart from the main bus stand at Veinthankulam, Junction and Palay are other bus stands that are used for intracity transport. TNSTC buses, as well as many private buses, connect the city for everyday commuter travel.
Tirunelveli has registered cab services in the form of rentals but doesn't have provision for yellow cab services as it is a very small town. However, call taxi services by certain operators are available. The major mode of cab transportation is Auto rickshaws and these are widely available.
Car Rentals are available but for self-driven options, it would be wise to check in with the operators as the options would be very limited. Motorbike rentals may also be difficult to get. The best option would be to enquire on the ground after arriving there.

Tirunelveli doesn’t have an extended train network. However, along with the main city station, which is the Tirunelveli Junction, there are five other stations where popular trains have stops. This may be used for intracity travel along with commuter passenger trains that have stops here. These stations are the Tirunelveli Town Palayamkottai, Pettai, Melapalayam MP and Thalayoothu.
There are multiple options to trek in and around Tirunelveli. There are nature parks and sanctuaries such as the Kalakkadu sanctuary. Tenkasi, Papanasam, Agasthiyar Falls are other places among many such attractions that can be explored around this city. Temples located in remote areas such as Vettuvan Koil Temple are other attractions which can be trekked to as well.
