Although part of Karnataka, Tulunadu is a region with its unique culture. Most of the people in this city are Hindu as this is an important temple town within the region. The 2011 population census recorded Udupi as having 165,401 people of which males were 49 percent and females at 51 percent. Hindus constituted about 85 percent of the population with Muslims being around 8 percent and Christians at 6 percent with other communities forming the rest. \n\nAmong the many communities that call Udipi home are the Goud Saraswat Brahmins, Mangalorean Catholics, Devadigas, Mogaveeras and many others.
