Haridwar (meaning ‘Gateway to God’), is one of Uttarakhand’s holiest cities. Millions visit Haridwar for taking a sacred bath in the Ganga river every year. Haridwar Railway Station is one of the largest and busiest railheads of Uttarakhand and falls under the Moradabad division of the Northern Railway Zone. Located on National Highway Number 58, it began operations in 1886 and is connected by meter gauge and broad gauge lines. A successful trial of electrification of the Dehradun-Haridwar track was launched in 2016.
