New Delhi to Guwahati Train Routes
The New Delhi-Guwahati line is one of the major routes on the Indian Railways network. Connecting the national capital to the Northeast India, the New Delhi (NDLS) to Guwahati (GHY) route passes through the vast stretches of the fertile land of UP and Bihar, and runs into the bushy forests and hilly terrains of West Bengal and Assam along with the mighty Brahmaputra River. Thus, offering travellers an opportunity to explore the rich biodiversity of India. The shortest route between New Delhi and Guwahati stretches up to 1861 km, while the longest one is 2032 km. The time required to cover the distance varies from 28 hours to 44 hours, depending on the train and route.
In order to ensure smooth connectivity, Indian Railways operates 11 different trains between New Delhi (NDLS) and Guwahati (GHY). North East Express is the earliest train on this route, which departs at 6:45 a.m. every day from Anand Vihar Terminal. Similarly, the last train from New Delhi to Guwahati is Tripura Sundari Express which also originates from Anand Vihar Terminal at 11:55 p.m. Further, there is a wide range of trains, including Rajdhani, Sampark Kranti and AC Superfast along with Mail/Express and Superfast, running on this route. Poorvottar Sampark Kranti, Dibrugarh Town Rajdhani and Avadh Assam Express are some of the most popular trains operating between New Delhi and Guwahati stations.
There are many NDLS to GHY trains that originate from various railway stations in Delhi and travel to different stations in Assam. However, there are 5 trains that run on the New Delhi NDLS to Guwahati GHY route. These trains are two Dibrugarh Town (DBRT) Rajdhani, Dibrugarh (DBRG) Rajdhani, and New Delhi (NDLS) - Guwahati (GHY) Poorvottar Sampark Kranti and New Delhi (NDLS) - Silchar (SCL) Poorvottar Sampark Kranti. Both of the Poorvottar Sampark Kranti Express trains take the same route via Kanpur Central (CNB) and Mughal Sarai Junction (MGS) in Uttar Pradesh and New Jalpaiguri (NJP) in West Bengal while traveling from NDLS to GHY.
On the contrary, all the Rajdhani Express trains follow different routes from New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) to Guwahati (GHY) Station. The first DBRT Rajdhani (which plies on Sundays and Thursdays) travels via Moradabad (MB), Lucknow (LKO) and Varanasi Junction (BSB) in Uttar Pradesh along with Hajipur (HJP) and Katihar Junction (KIR) in Bihar to reach Guwahati. The other DBRT Rajdhani Express (which runs daily) goes via Kanpur-Allahabad-Mughal Sarai route. Similarly, the DBRG Rajdhani (which runs on Tuesdays only) goes via Kanpur Central, Varanasi and Muzaffarpur Junction (MZP) in Bihar.
