Madgaon railway station (MAO) is the biggest and the busiest railway station of the Indian state of Goa. It serves the city of Margao, which is the second largest city of Goa by population. What makes Madgaon railway station (MAO) the busiest station of Goa is its geographical position. It is positioned at the intersection of the Konkan Railway and the South Western Railway and all trains stop here. It is basically used as a transit stop, rather than a tourist destination, by travelers who either head off down South to Palolem (38 km) or to Benaulim and Colva, which are about 6 km away, and are popular beaches of South Goa. A train journey from New Delhi (NDLS) to Madgaon (MAO) makes one witness the cultural and natural diversity of Western India and coastal region. Depending upon the route taken and the train type, trains from different stations in New Delhi travel a distance ranging from 2094 km to 2217 km in 28 hours to 39 hours to reach Madgaon railway station (MAO).
