Operated by Ethiopian Airports Enterprise, Addis Ababa Bole International Airport is located in the Bole area, 6 kilometers southeast of the Addis Ababa city center in Ethiopia. The airport acts as the base of the Ethiopian Aviation Academy and main operational hub of the Ethiopian Airlines. Previously it was called as the Haile Selassie I International Airport. The airport started its operations in January 2003 and operates both international and domestic flights. Addis Ababa Airport is going under major expansion due to an increase in its passenger traffic, which is more than 1.6 million each year. The airport main operator, Ethiopian Airlines received the SKYTRAX World Airline Award for The Best Airline in Africa on June 20, 2017 at the Paris Air Show. It was also awarded the African Airline of the Year Award for 2017.
