Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), which is commonly known as Atlanta Airport, is located at a distance of 11 km south of Atlanta’s central business district in the state of Georgia. By passenger traffic, it is known to be the busiest airport in the world since 1998. In 2012, it was recognized as the world’s busiest airport both in terms of passengers as well as the number of flights.
It accommodates 100 million passengers annually and serves as a major hub for travel throughout the south-eastern region. It also received a number of rewards from year to year such as the Global Efficiency Excellence Award by Air Transport Research Society and Best Airport Dining Award by Global Traveler Magazine.
Atlanta International Airport has two terminals – the Domestic terminal and the International terminal. The Domestic terminal is on the western side of the airport and is divided into two sides – Terminal South and Terminal North. Terminal South is home for Delta Airlines while all other domestic airlines operate from Terminal North.
International flights arrive and depart from the International Terminal also known as Maynard Holbrook Jackson Jr. International Terminal. It is located on the eastern side of the airport.
The airport has 207 domestic and international gates. They are located in seven concourses between the two terminals. Concourse T is connected to the domestic terminal. The remaining six concourses from west to east are Concourses A, B, C, D, E, and F. Concourses A to D and T are used for domestic flights whereas the remaining two are used for international flights.

Metro Hartsfield-Jackson has its own train station on the city’s rapid transit system, MARTA. The station is located in the main building on the west end between the north and south domestic terminals. The Rental Car Center, which is just a few minutes away, houses a number of rental car agencies such as Avis, Advantage, Hertz, Enterprise, Payless, and Alamo, among others. While the ATL Sky Train is an electric-powered automated people mover system that connects the Rental Car Center to the airport and additional parking area. It also serves the Georgia International Convention Center, the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway, and Springhill Suites Atlanta Airport Gateway.
