Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka

Covering an area of 1,981 acres, the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) has the capacity to handle 8 million passengers on an annual basis. Earlier known as Zia International Airport, it’s the largest airport of Bangladesh. Dhaka Airport is the only international airport of Bangladesh and it started the operations in 1980. Around 4 million international and 2 million domestic passengers transit through the airport annually with the total number being 6,154,215 in the year 2016. The airport runs around 26 airlines to 19 countries, including both domestic and international destinations.

Terminals Trivia

Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport has three passenger terminals - Terminal 1 (T1), Terminal 2 (T2), and Domestic Terminal. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 handle international flights and Domestic Terminal operates domestic flights. The arrival deck is located in the ground floor and departure hall is located in the upper floor. The Domestic Terminal has both the arrivals and departures in one floor. VIP terminal is located approximately 200 meters from the main gate, and it is reserved for dignitaries and used occasionally. Biman Bangladesh Airlines, United Airways, Regent Airways, Novoair, and US-Bangla Airlines are some of the airlines that have their hub here.

HSIA has many transport facilities to reach the city. Buses run frequently from the main road outside the airport and have stops to the major city stops. Metered taxis are the most convenient way of travel here and can be found outside the airport. Rental car companies at the airport include Europcar and Dhaka Airport Car Rental Service, along with many others. The taxi offices are licensed and are located in the Arrival Concourse Hall. There are a wide variety of vehicles to choose from as per your personal comfort.
