It started operations in 2004 as a replacement for the identically named old airport. The airport serves the districts of Baiyun and Huadu. The four-storied terminal at Guangzhou Airport consists of three components – Main Terminal, Area A, and Area B (which are concourses), elevated passages, and connection building. Area A and Area B are managed by two security checkpoints, and contain facilities like security check, boarding gates, baggage reclaim, custom & quarantine, border control, and others. For servicing international flights, East Pier 1 & 2 have been in operation since January 2016. Other points in the terminal are only for domestic flights.
