Terminals Trivia

Helsinki Airport is split into two terminals, which are separated by 250 meters of pedestrian corridor. The airport surpassed its capacity of handling 17 million passengers annually in 2017.

The first terminal is called Terminal 1 that is mainly for domestic flights. It hosts 11 gates from 5-15 and is utilized by Vueling and members of Star Alliance. Long-haul flights are not operated from Terminal 1. The second terminal, Terminal 2, is mainly for international flights, although some domestic flights also operate from this terminal. This terminal was opened in 1969 and operates gates 16-38.

Gates 11-31 handle mainly domestic and European Schengen flights. Gates 31-38 handle long-haul and European non-Schengen flights.

There are cafes, bars, and restaurants at both terminals. Both arrival and departure areas have several eating joints. There are several kinds of retail shops, including duty-free shops, at the airport.

Helsinki Airport also provides other facilities to passengers, such as playroom for children, rest location with internet access and working stations, and free Wi-Fi access. There are also VIP lounges offering a plethora of services, such as baggage handling, food and drinks, shops, currency exchange, and other forms of assistance.

Transport Facilities

Helsinki Airport is well-connected by buses, trains, and cabs. There are bus stops located outside both the terminals that carry the passengers to and from the airport. Night buses are also available at the airport. Moreover, there is a free airport bus that moves between parking areas in the airport every 15 minutes from 3:30 AM to 1:30 AM.

The airport also has had a train connection since 2015. The train station is situated between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 on the arrivals floor. The two train lines stopping at Helsinki Airport are Line “I” train and Line “P” train. There are also cabs available outside the airport that accept payment by both cash and credit cards.
