King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah

King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA Airport) or the Jeddah Airport is the busiest airport of Saudi Arabia and the third largest in the country. It is located 19 km north of Jeddah. The KAIA Airport was inaugurated in 1981 and is named after King Abdulaziz Al Saud. It is known for its Hajj Terminal, which is built to help thousands of Islamic pilgrims going to Mecca every year.

Terminals Trivia

Jeddah-KAIA airport has an exclusive Hajj Terminal, a South terminal and a North Terminal. The North Terminal at the airport is used by all other foreign airlines. The Hajj Terminal is for the exclusive use of Hajj Pilgrims. This is popular because of its close proximity to Mecca. This terminal can accommodate about 80,000 travelers at the same time. The majority of this complex is open air and not enclosed by walls, allowing natural ventilation. The Hajj Terminal was awarded the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1983.
