Tribhuvan International Airport, kathmandu

The airport at Kathmandu in Nepal is called Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). It was named TIA in 1964. Located around 6 km from the city center of Kathmandu, the airport is in the heart of the Kathmandu Valley. The airport operates both domestic and international airlines and has an apron large enough to park 9 medium and large body aircraft. It has a helipad and a single runway that is of length 3050 meters and width 46 meters. In the year 2015, a passenger traffic of 3.2 million was handled by the airport.

The Kathmandu Airport has one domestic and one international terminal. There are immigrations counters and visa counters for foreigners (except Indian nationality) at the international terminal. The airport has two channels for customs clearance and special counters for VIPs and diplomats.

There is an arrival lounge with CIP rooms for Commercially Important Persons. The CIP rooms can be availed at a cost of RS. 450 per hour for one person. The airport is well-equipped with escalators, elevators, and washrooms for the convenience of the passengers.

Restaurants, duty-free shops, and shops selling snacks, beverages, souvenirs, etc. are present at the airport. Also, there are business lounges and executive lounges for passengers traveling in business and first travel classes.

Sajha Yatayat is a public transport bus system in Nepal. These buses are available outside the airport for transportation to different parts of the city. Prepaid taxis and Meter taxis for commutes are available at both terminals. Also, you can hire them to reach the nearest travel hubs. Rental car services are available at the arrival lounge of the airport.
