Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport, madinah

Madinah Airport is mainly known as Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport. Located in north-east of Madinah, it’s the fourth busiest airport in Saudi Arabia. The airport is named after one of the famous princes of the place, Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The airport was expanded recently and the new airport was inaugurated on 2nd July, 2015. The airport can presently handle 8 million passengers. There has been a considerable increase of passengers since then with total annual passengers in the year 2016 coming up to 6,572,787 that included the passengers of 719,638 Hajj charter and 818,092 Umrah charter.

Terminals Trivia

The new terminal consists of a three-level terminal covering over 156,940 square meters with 16 aircraft stands and boarding bridges. There is a new Hajj terminal and 6 Hajj pavilions with world-class facilities. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification for the recent terminal expansion. It’s the first airport to receive this prestigious award outside U.S. The new terminal has beautiful architecture inspired from the Hejaz architecture and the palm tree with various functional improvements such as well-organized passenger routes, security and safety, operational efficiency, and flexibility. Saudia and Saudi Arabian Airlines are the main airlines operating from this airport.
