Milan-Malpensa Airport, which was previously known as City of Busto Arsizio Airport, is the largest international airport in the metropolitan area of Milan. It serves the city of Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria, as well as the Swiss region of Canton Ticino. The airport is located about 49 km northwest of Central Milan adjacent to the Ticino river. The Milan Airport has handled 19,320,546 passengers in the year 2016. It has been ranked as the 29th busiest airport in Europe in terms of passenger handling.

Terminals Trivia

Milan Airport has two passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, which are connected by shuttle buses. Terminal 1 is divided into three sections: 1A, which handles domestic and intra-Schengen flights, 1B, which handles non-Schengen and some intercontinental flights, and 1C, which also handles non-Schengen and intercontinental flights. Terminal 2 is currently used exclusively by easyJet.

Malpensa Express trains run from T1 and T2 terminals to Milan Cadorna station located southwest of Milan Central. From here, there are connections to Milan Metro lines. Two high speed services also connect the airport to Florence via Milan Central. The shuttle bus services connect the airport to the Central Station. A free 24-hour shuttle bus also provides connection between the two terminals. The airport is accessible by a four-lane motorway to highways connecting to Switzerland and Venice. There are white taxis available for transportation to the city.
