Sheremetyevo International Airport, moscow

Sheremetyevo Airport was originally constructed as the main air base for the Soviet Army’s Air Force. In August 1959, it started operating as a commercial airport. Today, acknowledged as the largest airport in Russia, Sheremetyevo International Airport is spread across 480,000 square meters. The airport’s routes currently cover more than 300 international destinations and it has an annual passenger handling capacity of 35 million. Development of a sanitary protection zone, maintaining latest security systems, and adopting approaches for automatic luggage inspection are just some of its milestones over the years. Amongst the many accolades that this airport has won in the past decade, a few of them include the Traveler’s Choice award in April 2015 and the Best Airport award in September 2016.

Terminals Trivia

Sheremetyevo International Airport or Moscow Airport, which once had just two terminals, underwent exhaustive upgradation in terms of its services and infrastructure, and now consists of six big terminals from Terminals A to F. This almost trebled the passenger handling capacity of the airport. Terminals A to C fall under the North Sector whereas Terminals D to F are under the South Sector. Apart from Terminal A, which serves business and private flights, the other five terminals focus on commercial flights. Considering the convenience of travelers, the terminals D to F are interconnected by pedestrian walkways fitted with travelators. In addition, frequent shuttles run between Terminal C and Terminal E, carrying passengers across sections. For travelers who have a long waiting time at the airport, Terminal E has a transit hotel named V-Express.

Shop, Eat, and Relax

Starting from luxury items to souvenirs, watches, perfumes, and gift items, duty-free outlets in each of the terminals at Sheremetyevo International Airport fascinate the travelers. In addition, there is the Globus Gourmet Express on Terminals D and E, which is known for its home cooked meals, freshly bakes goodies, and grocery products. Some of the good restaurants and eateries at the airport include Burger King, Café Bread & Salt, Caffé Ritazza, Hippopotamus, and Kroshka-Kartoshka.

There are several services offered to travelers at the airport, including VIP lounges, mother and child rooms, medical facilities, pharmacies, free unlimited Wi-Fi, and special services such as medical elevators and demarcated check-in counters for people with limited mobility.

Transport Facilities

Aeroexpress, a high speed train service is one of the most convenient modes of travel. It originates at the airport and runs till the Belorussky Rail Terminal. This express train operates every 15 to 20 minutes. Shuttle buses are also available from the airport, which take passengers to different places in Moscow and Demodedovo. Hiring a taxi is always a convenient option at the airport. Transparking, LLC autothermia, and LLC Taxi-Sher are some of the taxi companies authorized to operate from the airport. In addition, if you wish to go for car rental services, there are several agencies at the Sheremetyevo International Airport, including Avis, Sixt, Hertz, and Europcar.
