Itami Airport, osaka

Kansai International Airport (Osaka Airport) is situated on an artificial island, 40 kms from central Osaka. After Osaka International Airport was exploited beyond its capacity, Kansai Airport started its operation in 1994. Today, it is the primary airport in Japan handling more than 700 international passenger flights every week. It functions as the hub for All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan Airlines, and Peach, a low-cost international airline provider in Japan. Currently, it is the third busiest airport in Japan after catering to about 25.2 million travelers in 2016. In addition, according to Salam Standard, Kansai International Airport has been named as one of the three most Muslim-friendly airports, the other two being Singapore Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Terminals Trivia

Kansai International Airport has two terminals – Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1, a four-story building, is the primary terminal located in a sophisticated and long building. This terminal serves domestic flights as well as international flights. Very close to terminal 1 is the railway station, which streamlines commuting for travelers. Terminal 2 is much smaller in terms of operation as well as size when compared to Terminal 1. It serves budget airlines. In fact, Peach is the exclusive airline that runs from this terminal. Other low-cost flights including Cebu Pacific Air and Jetstar Airways operate from Terminal 1. Terminal 2 is connected to Terminal 1 through free shuttles.

Shop, Eat, and Relax

Kansai International Airport is well-equipped with traveler-friendly amenities. For parents travelling with children and infants, exclusive kids playing area, baby rooms with diaper changing facilities, and nursing area are made available. Provisions to borrow strollers and wheelchairs from the information counters are made. To relax after a tiring journey, airport lounges, shower rooms, and several relaxation therapies including foot massage and hand reflexology are in offer. A doctor’s clinic in Terminal 1 is present to take care of any medical emergencies.

Both the terminals have plenty of shopping and eating options. Some of these are open 24/7, whereas the others operate for fixed hours during the day. Apart from a number of cafes, some restaurants on Terminal 1 are Sukiya, Goryo, Mosdo, and Ganko. If you are in Terminal 2, you can explore the cuisines available at Sorateria, Osaka Gochi Shokudou, and Brasserie. When it comes to shopping, you can do duty-free purchase of perfumes, beauty products, clothes, and much more from brands like Omega, Victoria’s Secret, and Bvlgari.
