Named after the Venetian traveler Marco Polo, the Venice Marco Polo Airport is the main international airport of Venice, situated in Tessera. There is another smaller airport at Venice named Treviso Airport, which focuses on the operation of low-cost domestic and international flights. In 2016, the Venice Marco Polo Airport served more than 9.6 million passengers and had operated approximately 90,000 flights. Currently, it is Italy’s fifth busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic.

The terminal building at the Venice Marco Polo Airport consists of four floors. The ground floor is dedicated for arrival of flights. All departures of domestic and international flights take place from the second floor. However, Schengen and non-Schengen flights have exclusive departure gates. There are 37check-in counters on the ground floor and 60 check-in counters on the first floor. The third floor of this building comprises the airline offices.

The Venice airport also takes care of the special needs of individual travelers. Wheelchairs and ambulift are offered to passengers with limited mobility. Special assistance to autistic individuals, strollers for babies, priority check-in lanes for people traveling with infants, and kids’ nurseries are available. In addition, there is a VIP lounge, which is open from 5 AM to 11 PM. Tickets to enter the lounge are sold at the ticket counter at EUR 40 per person.
