Geneva is at the south-western extremity of Switzerland, which borders France. This city is right at the south-western end of Lake Geneva where the lake flows back into the Rhone river. One side of the city, the Alps rise towards Italy while the Jura mountain range rises towards the north-western side. Within Switzerland, Geneva is about 276 km by road from Zurich and 167 km from Bern. Both these cities are in a north-easterly direction. Lyon, the closest major city in France, is about 182 km away.
