About seychelles

Officially known as the Republic of Seychelles, it is a country in the Indian Ocean, located 1500 kilometers off East Africa. An archipelago of 115 islands, 41 of them are granite islands and 74 are low-lying coral atolls and reef islands. Many of the islands are uninhabited and Seychelles is famous for having some of the best beaches in the world, unspoilt and isolated. The sea waters are so pristine that often the beaches display multitude shades of blue.

The three most populated and developed islands in Seychelles are Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue. Mahe is the home to the capital -Victoria, as well as the international airport, and the beautiful Morne Seychellois National Park. Pralin, the other inhabited island, is known for its beaches with pearl white sand, and its tranquil ambience. Visitors must explore the UNESCO-listed Vallée de Mai when here. The island of La Digue shelters some of the world's most breathtaking beaches. Though it is a densely populated island, large area have been cordoned off to preserve natural beauty. Private island living options are also available. Owing to its topography, Seychelles is a popular water sports destination, with state-of-art facilities available for snorkeling, scuba diving, and coral spotting. The botanical gardens of Victoria and the bio-reserve on Curieuse Island are also a large draw.

Seafood is the primary attraction of Seychelles cuisine. Interesting variations include Shark chutney and turtle meat. Rice is the staple grain, with breadfruit being its substitute. Their platter also includes a range of fresh fruits and vegetables and some edible flowers. Being a beach country, the flavor of coconut is prominent in the food and drinks. The preparations vary from being spicy to mildly spiced and sweet.

Seychelles is a colourful blend of cosmopolitan life with people of diverse races, religions and cultures. People from across the continents of Africa, Europe and Asia have settled here down the ages - each bringing and lending to this vibrant country their own distinct flavour of culture and traditions, making for the eclectic mix of Seychellois culture. Seychelles, with its idyllic natural beauty and peacefully, paced lifestyle is like a slice of heaven on earth. A must visit to immerse yourself in the true spirit of nature.
