Shanghai has a humid subtropical weather, which experiences four distinct seasons, pleasant spring, hot rainy summer, cool autumn and a cold winter. Winters get chilly and damp, where temperatures can dip below freezing, although most years have seen only one or two days of snowfall and the coldest time is from the latter part of January up until early February. The summers of July and August are hot and humid, with an average temperature of 35 °C, with the occasional downpour and thunderstorms. The rains descend on Shanghai in June all through September and from late August till early September, typhoons and rainstorms are a regular feature.
